Video: Will my creditors stop harassing me when I file for bankruptcy?

One of the most important, immediate relief that any person gets when they file a bankruptcy is something called the bankruptcy automatic stay. There's no court order, but it happens by operation of law, once that petition is filed with the bankruptcy court. The automatic stay stops all creditors from harassing the debtor who has filed bankruptcy. Therefore, if there are lawsuits that are pending, they have to stop. If there are demand letters that had been sent to the debtor, they have to stop. If you are getting phone calls at home, all of those phone calls have to stop as well.
